Education for Liberation
Youth in Crisis Part 1
An Overview
The Education for Liberation youth education conference is
model for a much needed healing process which bridges
generations and empowers our young people as facilitators
and participants in discussions designed to help them gain a
broader perspective of the state of the state, and what
transformative principles and ideas we can all assume
responsibility for in order to effect change. We are projecting
and planning for 200 students, who will rotate through five
workshops.
- Jails is Not a Rite of Passage
- Power Privilege and Oppression
- The Six Principles of Non Violence
- Mind, Body and Spirit
- Wealth Building
The unique feature of these workshops is that they will be
student facilitated. While it is impossible to address the
myriad of social and economic issues in this three day
setting, what we expect to effect is the networking by and
between students, educators, parents, social justice
organizations, religious institutions and public officials who
are presently working independently; and whose similar social
and economic justice initiatives would otherwise continue to
evolve in isolation.
It is our responsibility as leaders and elders to insure that the
world we are leaving our young people is filled with more
hope and opportunity than the world we ourselves inherited.
Education for Liberation speaks directly to this responsibility.
The time, talent and resources of all people of goodwill are
needed to make this youth conference a success. We hope
that you will join us in this historic effort, and help us achieve
the goals of healing, bridging the generational divide, helping
our young people begin to believe again in the power of their
ideas: and finally, empowering our young people to become
compassionate and informed agents of change within their
communities.
